- W4367281311 abstract "This paper suggests that the puy painted in Amiens in 1500 and kept in Amiens Musée de Picardie, is a complex celebration of Louis XII’s conquest of Milan. It highlights the painter’s technical skills like group portrait composition and multiple colour glazes over gold leaf. The painting can be ascribed to the Master of the Princely Portraits, whose name is revealed here: Jean Beugier, a painter and illuminator active both in Brussels and Amiens from 1468 to 1505. His initials IB or his monogram appear on two panels from the Louvre Museum in Paris and Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam. Using both archival material and stylistic evidence, the author discusses the artist’s connexions with the van der Stockt family in Brussels. The Master of the Legend of Saint Catherine may be identified with painter Vrancke van der Stockt while the Master of the Legend of the Magdalen must be his son, Bernard van der Stockt. For chronological reasons it is still difficult to judge whether the illuminator known as Master of Jacques de Rambures might be identified with Jean Beugier’s father, Pierre Beugier, deceased in 1479." @default.
