- W4367332550 abstract "Cancer has been a brutal yet progressive health crisis that has contributed to the next level of morbidity worldwide. With the advancements in molecular pharmacology and drug design, several lead molecules have been developed which have proven their anticancer in vitro. But the development of modern medicine has also not kept any bar on the mortality rate of cancer patients due to which the constant need to search novel chemotherapeutics or to repurpose chemopreventive agents has been desired which has better efficiency and less toxicity. Phytochemicals or phytoactives have proven their pivotal role in the treatment of cancer. Phytochemicals like vincristine, vinblastine, taxol, curcumin, quercetin, etc., have a definite molecular pathway by which they act on cancer cells and suppress their growth and development synergistically. The overall mechanisms by which they probably act include targeting different molecular enzymes, interference with the redox mechanism of the cell, initiating autophagy, and promoting apoptosis and suppression of oncogenes. In this chapter, an attempt has been made to summarize the potential of those phytochemicals which are still out of research investigation sight. A complete discussion on the phytochemical’s role in preventing cancer through their molecular mechanism of interaction and signaling mechanism with their prospective of being a promising lead molecule will be elucidated. An expansion of information related to phytochemicals currently under clinical trials will be given to have a complete idea of gaps and pitfalls of phytochemical-based research trends and implications to fill the lacunae for ideal anticancer drug development." @default.
