- W4367333608 abstract "Last few decades unveiled the existence of diverse pool of non-coding RNAs, small RNAs, and repetitive elements which can play a pivotal role in maintaining the cellular homeostasis and dysfunction. Time- and tissue-dependent gene regulation by these small RNAs in-vivo made them a new class of pharmacological agents. The therapeutic effects of conventional treatment are fugitive as they are developed to target proteins rather than the actual underlying cause. On the other hand, nucleic acid-based therapeutics can procure long-term effect with much higher efficacy through gene silencing, editing. Thus, nucleic acid-based therapeutics are emerging as one of the most reliable on-target therapy for the treatment of genetically well-defined neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, etc. Here, we will discuss the important nucleic acid-based therapies to treat neurodegenerative diseases along with the opportunities and challenges depending on the disease and the drug target. In addition, we will also accentuate the present-day application of these inhibitory small RNAs and antisense oligonucleotides in animal models and clinical trials." @default.
