- W4367723744 abstract "This chapter describes CIB application practice through selected examples. It includes systems and scenario analyses in the fields of politics, energy supply, public health, and climate protection, thus illustrating that CIB is not bound to specific subject areas but can be used in practice as a generic tool for qualitative system and scenario analysis. The selection of examples also illustrates that a CIB analysis can have different objectives, even if the limited number of case studies presented does not allow for completeness. The first example, which concerns the Iran nuclear deal represents the classical objective in which CIB is used to illuminate the range of possible futures for a system with a limited number of scenarios. The description of the scenario study on energy supply that follows complements the presentation of the classic application with an example in which CIB analysis yielded a large number of scenarios and statistical methods were required to extract the key messages from the portfolio. Subsequent studies on public health and climate protection show that there can also be other objectives for CIB analysis. In the analysis of juvenile obesity, in contrast to the classical application of the method, the aim is not to look into the future but to understand a complex system and to assess the possible effect of interventions without reference to time. In the final example, on climate protection, the task for CIB was to subject existing policy advice scenarios to a critical consistency check and to identify possible one-sidedness." @default.
