• W4375846822 abstract "The research aims to investigate shear fracture behaviors and failure precursors of jointed rocks under the joint action of normal static loads and dynamic disturbances. To this end, disturbed shear fracture tests were conducted on intact granite and granite with discontinuous joints under different normal stresses. Internal correlations of acoustic emission (AE) characteristic parameters with mechanical parameters of shear fracture of the rocks were investigated. On this basis, a method for predicting shear fracture of granite under disturbances using AE characteristic parameters and key information points was proposed. The result shows that the presence of joints weakens the shear capacity of rocks and influences crack propagation paths and failure modes. In addition, the influence is weakened with increasing normal stress. The increase in normal stress results in a growing proportion of shear cracks and the presence of joints lowers the contribution of shearing action to the deformation of the rock mass. The normal stress and joints exert significant influences on AE characteristic parameters, and the pre-peak relatively quiet period of AE events and the constant reduction of AE b value can be used as precursors of fracture failure of rocks. Therefore, key information including the duration of the pre-peak relatively quiet period of AE events, the value of exponent z of accelerated energy release, and the AE b value can be used as important indices when assessing the risk of shear fracture failure. The research results provide certain reference for revealing the shear fracture mechanism of jointed rocks under disturbances and judging the stability of a rock mass." @default.
