- W4375865394 abstract "Lymphoid neoplasms, including lymphoma, myeloma, and leukemia, are clinically and molecularly heterogeneous diseases with poor outcomes in many cases. Lymphoid neoplasms are the sixth most common cancer group worldwide. Despite the significant progress made in understanding the molecular drivers of these neoplasms, the standard of care for many patients has remained unchanged over many years. This disappointing survival rate has inspired the development of more relevant animal models to understand the evolution and progression of these cancers. Therefore, a well-designed model system is necessary for developing effective treatment strategies for patients. Here, we discuss the various animal models that can be used to study lymphoid neoplasms. We draw comparisons between humans and animals based on data collected from multiple species. This chapter presents an overview of the various animal models used for studying lymphoid neoplasms in order of increasing complexity: the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster , the zebrafish Danio rerio , and the laboratory mouse Mus musculus . We will also discuss the non-human primate models of virally induced cancer." @default.
