Unlike the normal electrocaloric effect, the inverse electrocaloric effect is believed to be very rare. In this study, first-principles-based effective Hamiltonian methods are used and the inverse electrocaloric effect is found to be a universal phenomenon in oxide and halide perovskites over different structural phases. Such an unusual effect originates from the entropy change related to the oxygen/halogen octahedron." @default.
