- W4376149512 abstract "This study aims to improve the dye and heavy metal ion removal performance of chitosan with caffeic acid functionalization for wastewater treatment applications. Chitosan-caffeic acid matrix (CCM) was synthesized via the amide coupling method then lyophilize resulting in a sponge-like matrix. CCM was applied to simulated wastewater with 40 µM anionic azo dye, Trypan blue, and heavy metal ions including Fe and Pb. The decontamination performance was observed at 1, 2 and 4 h. The results showed that the introduction of caffeic acid in CCM significantly increased the dye removal rate and heavy metal ion removal capability compared to the chitosan without caffeic acid. For future work, determinizing the approximate ratio of caffeic acid and chitosan is necessary to reach the maximum efficiency of CCM." @default.
