Our study found that the presence of the Hydrus microstent was protective in terms of visual field (VF) progression compared to cataract surgery alone, despite similar in-office intraocular pressure (IOP), similar to but more marked than the Laser in Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension Trial (LiGHT) findings. 2 Wright DM Konstantakopoulou E Montesano G et al. Comment on: Five-Year Visual Field Outcomes of the HORIZON TrialAmerican Journal of OphthalmologyPreviewMontesano and associates1 are to be congratulated on their well-designed study that assessed the impact of the Hydrus microstent (Ivantis Inc) on visual field preservation in patients undergoing cataract surgery. The authors suggest that combining the Hydrus microstent with cataract surgery may preserve visual field in many patients at risk of visual loss. I would like to comment on some aspects of the study that need reflection. The authors indicate that by combining the Hydrus microstent with cataract surgery, the average rate of visual field progression was reduced compared with the cataract surgery only arm.
