To increase the computing power, the heterogeneous computing (HC) architecture has been popularly applied. This architecture commonly consists of one general-purpose CPU and several specific accelerators such as GPUs, FPGAs or Neural network Processing Units (NPUs). For the students in AI specialty, it is essential to teach them the HC technology so that they can master the skills of accelerating the computationally-intensive AI algorithms. However, it is not easy to teach the HC technology as different accelerators have different development tools and different programming languages. To facilitate the HC development, the Intel corporation has launched oneAPI, which provides unified programming model across different accelerator architectures such as the CPU, GPU, FPGA and NPU, for the purpose of achieving faster application performance, more productivity and greater innovation. In this paper, the work on teaching HC technology for the students of AI specialty by using oneAPI toolkits, DPC++ programming and DevCloud experimental platform is presented. First, the background of HC technology is introduced. Then, the oneAPI toolkits and the teaching work of DPC++ programming is discussed. Following that, the experimental modules for teaching oneAPI by using DPC++ programming based on DevCloud online experimental platform are investigated. Later, a training project which uses oneAPI to accelerate Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) algorithm based on CPU/GPU/FPGA HC platform is proposed. The above teaching work has been carried out in the AI specialty of Wuhan University of Technology, and the survey results show that this course can help the students easily and efficiently master the development technology of HC system." @default.
