- W4377005308 abstract "SUMMARYRidet J. M.: Study of the optimal rearing and feeding conditions for Lymantria dispar. To rearing gypsy moth, the apple tree (Malus communis), the pedonculate oak (Quercus pedunculata), and the american red oak (Q. rubra) have been considered: the apple tree is the plant with the best nutritional value and the red oak is suitable to winter rearing of L. dispar. An artificial diet in view of finding an inexpensive and easily workable diet to overcome the temporary lack of natural diet has been tested and results are encouraging. The variability of the number of larval instars is related to the nutritional value of the diet: the number of instars increases with the decrease of nutritious value. The mesenteron pH between 9,50 and 9,90 and the hemolymph pH (about 6,70) do not display any variation related to the natural or artificial diet provided to the larvae. The thermal optimum of the larval and puppal development is located between 25 and 26,5° C." @default.
