- W4377018537 abstract "Selenium (Se) is an essential trace nutrient for human beings, but excessive consumption is badly toxic and causes specific harm. At present, with serious Se pollution to the water environment, it is necessary to find appropriate ways to remove Se from processing or industrial waste. Adsorption method for dissolved-Se removal is widely applied with cost-saving and operational simplicity. As an outstanding adsorbent, magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with high specific surface have a stronger ability to adsorb Se than non-nanoparticles, and are easily recycled for their superparamagnetism under an external magnetic field. Herein, the reviewed MNPs are classified into nano-scaled zero-valent iron (nZVI), Fe2O3, Fe3O4, and iron-based mixtures, e.g., MnFe2O4, MgFe2O4, CoFe2O4, ZnFe2O4, magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles on the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MIO-MWCNTs), dihydroxide coupled with zero-valent iron (Fe-Al-Cl-LDH/ZVI), Al3+ modified Fe-metal organic frameworks (Al@Fe-MOF), TiO2@SiO2/Fe3O4, MNP-graphene oxide, mercapto functionalized Zr-based magnetic metal-organic framework (MUS), and magnetic carbon microspheres (MCMSs). In addition, future challenges and trends are to continuously increase the types and functions of Se adsorbents, lower the cost of synthetic MNPs, reduce the difficulty of synthesis, and facilitate the regeneration of used MNPs.
