- W4377037701 abstract "Abstract To understand wellbeing, one must understand the positive emotions that are one of its primary ingredients. Positive emotions occur when people perceive evolutionarily important stimuli that signal opportunities to maintain or grow wellbeing, and make positive appraisals of those stimuli in terms of the relationship between the stimuli and the self. These positive appraisals then lead to action tendencies that evolved to improve wellbeing and evolutionary fitness, as well as to the bodily responses that support these action tendencies. People are also sometimes motivated to regulate their positive emotions to achieve their goals. In this chapter, I review each of these processes involved in positive emotion, and integrate theory and findings across biological, psychological, sociocultural, and environmental lenses." @default.
