- W4377037777 abstract "Abstract Eudaimonic wellbeing emphasises the realisation of personal potential and being purposefully engaged. Prior findings on how eudaimonia varies by age, gender, race, and educational status are briefly noted, along with studies showing links to work and family life. With regard to health, different components of eudaimonia have been shown to predict longer lives, reduced risk for disease outcomes, and better physiological regulation. The enhancement of eudaimonic wellbeing has been the focus of intervention efforts. Against this backdrop, three directions for future research are presented. The first focuses on widening socioeconomic inequalities, which have been exacerbated by the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. These historical changes are undermining the wellbeing of many, although more science and public policy action are needed. The second, more hopeful topic examines the role of the arts and humanities as beneficial influences on eudaimonia. The final topic focuses specifically on encounters with nature, via poetry, literature, the visual arts, and music, as factors that may nurture eudaimonia. The overall intent is to expand the reach of a theoretically and philosophically rich conception of human wellbeing." @default.
