- W4378416713 abstract "<sec> <title>BACKGROUND</title> It is well known that the diversity of the world’s population is increasing, along with the health inequities of underrepresented minority (URM) populations. In order to provide high quality care to all patients, nurses need to understand diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and implement best practices. Nursing educators are in a prime role to lead education about DEI for the next generation of nurses. </sec> <sec> <title>OBJECTIVE</title> The objective of this paper is to provide an introduction to DEI concepts for excellence in nurse education and related benefits. </sec> <sec> <title>METHODS</title> A review of literature and current resources was completed. Best practices for recruiting URM nursing faculty will be highlighted as well as several practical ways for nurse educators to incorporate excellence in DEI and related benefits will be discussed. </sec> <sec> <title>RESULTS</title> Several ways to incorporate DEI excellence include address in the mission statement, curriculum, leadership, DEI strategic plan, education, related data collection, policy change, outreach, hiring committee, recognition of work, and mentorship. </sec> <sec> <title>CONCLUSIONS</title> The diversity of nursing students and the next generation of nurse educators is increasing and demands that nursing education evolve. Committing to DEI efforts and improving diversity in the nurse educator workforce are integral steps in improving the quality and inclusivity of nursing education and ultimately improving the health of our communities. </sec>" @default.
