- W4378417683 abstract "Many of the potential locations around the world with high solar radiation availability lie in semi-arid or arid areas where dust and water scarcity are major concerns. Dust deposition on solar thermal collectors as well as solar photovoltaic (PV) modules results in reduction in efficiency over time. Cleaning of dust from solar systems involves use of large quantity of water, which poses a problem for already water starved areas. Present work focuses on the study of hydrophobic coatings for reduction in dust deposition and saving of water used in cleaning dust. In the present study three commercially available transparent hydrophobic coatings were coated on glass substrates and one uncoated glass substrate was used as reference. The transmittance of the three coated samples was tested through UV–Vis spectrophotometer. Experiments were performed on the samples for dust deposition and cleaning with water. From the experiments it is found that the samples coated with hydrophobic coatings had lesser dust deposition and the water required for cleaning is also less as compared to the uncoated sample. The water savings for the three coatings is in the range 30 to 67% as compared to the uncoated sample." @default.
