In general, two methods are taken to measure aerosols, including bioaerosols. The first method is to perform analysis after air sampling. As air sampling methods, methods, such as impaction and filtration, are commonly used. For example, an air sampling device called an impactor that uses impaction can also separate particles by size, and by arranging multiple impactors in series (cascade impactor), aerosol particles can be collected in multiple size fractions, enabling the measurement of particle size distribution. The second method is real-time air monitoring. In real-time monitoring of bioaerosols, the autofluorescence emitted from the biological substances is commonly monitored. In this chapter, we review the principles of air sampling and monitoring methods for bioaerosols. The topics include impaction, filtration, air inlets, atmospheric deposition sampling, and real-time monitoring." @default.
