- W4379162689 abstract "The technique of dispersing nanomaterials into liquid crystal (LC) matrix to improve their various physical parameters appears to be undergoing a paradigm change towards a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to create superior electro-optic devices. Over the past decade, due to their extraordinary properties, Carbon Dots (CDs) have created a bustle in the area of research in nanoscience, nanotechnology, and allied fields. Dispersion of CDs in LC matrix to enhance their various physical properties has emerged as a hot topic of research because the results achieved so far are highly promising for device applications. Therefore, it is worth studying and analyzing the impact of dispersing CDs in the LC media on various physical features of the host and vice versa. In this article, we have provided a comprehensive review of the current achievements and insights in CDs dispersed LC composites. The review starts with the discussion on the unique outstanding properties of CDs and their synthesis methods. Further, a systematic review of the effects of CDs on tuning the optical, dielectric, and electro-optical properties of nematic and ferroelectric LCs has been carried out. In the last section, current issues faced in this area and future prospects of CDs-LC composites have also been discussed. Overall, detail studies shows that CDs are a better, cost-effective, and eco-friendly alternative dopant in the LC matrix as compared to conventional nanomaterials, including heavy metal-based Quantum Dots. Hence, CDs-LC composites have the potential to provide a better solution for low-cost, high-performance, and environmentally safe LC-based high-performance electro-optical and photonic applications." @default.
