- W4379403048 abstract "Solar-driven (i.e., photoelectrochemical) water splitting (PEC-WS) is an efficient process for converting solar energy into chemical energy as a large-scale production of renewable hydrogen from water. In this process, sunlight is utilized to stimulate semiconductor materials, which produce free electrons that can participate in the water-splitting mechanism. Developing cost-effective, active, and stable semiconducting photoelectrodes is crucial for achieving PEC-WS with high solar-to-hydrogen (STH) efficiency. This chapter provides an overview of the details of key methods for developing and modulating perovskite materials compositionally, with structural flexibility, and allowing them to be a stable contender for PEC-WS activity via enhanced sunlight absorption with fine control and tailoring of bandgaps and band edges. However, the major drawback of these perovskite oxides is the low STH efficiency, which limits their utility in meeting the demands of real-world applications. Perovskite oxide materials are also discussed in terms of their existing difficulties and future potential in PEC-WS." @default.
