- W4379660525 abstract "This chapter discusses the possibilities for South Asia’s collaboration for women’s social policy. The current situation of South Asia is discussed with respect to inability to unite for joint efforts for trade or social development. The similarities in culture, history, treatment and status of women, and development progress are also considered to bring attention to the potential benefits for joint efforts in women’s protection. Individual country assessment is done to understand the existing policies for women’s protection in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Secondary data from the Asian Development Bank (2019) and the World Bank (2019) are used to present and compare different statistics from South Asian countries, such as the Human Development Index ranking, Gender Development Index ranking, and spending on Social Welfare, Education, and Health. Other key socio-demographic data are also compared, such as maternal mortality rates, female literacy rates, and share in senior and middle management positions. The discussion confirms that there is limited social policy efforts for women’s protection in South Asian countries, and the last part of the chapter presents six collaborative efforts which must be led by South Asian women to build social protection for women in the region." @default.
