- W4380186087 abstract "Regarding medical education, completely digitized learning is usually not considered to be a suitable format. Driven by the pandemic situation, we anyway successfully developed a completely digitzed flipped classroom for teaching salivary gland pathologies. With the recurrence of face-to-face teaching, we integrated this principle into our framwork curriculum. Interactive videos about salivary gland diseases were supplied for the preparation. During the online live session, we demonstrated salivary gland ultrasound and performed teamworking in breakout sessions consisting of 10-15 students. The course was evaluated concomitantly. As one part of the results, satisfaction of students and instructors was high concerning learning atmosphere, success and digital interaction. While the workload for instructors was initially high, especially for creating interactive videos, it decreased significantly after establishing the course format. An impact on examination performance was not observed. In summary, our project shows that, limited to certain topics, a completely digitized course format can be meaningful in medical education and otolaryngology. A special working atmosphere was created by teamworking in breakout sessions and the integration of salivary gland ultrasound. Challenges of the concept were less educational but more the organizational integration into the curriculum." @default.
