- W4380881311 abstract "The growth of emerging infectious diseases and the spread of already-existing infections pose a major threat to both the global economy and human life. Many countries are still suffering the repeated invasion of some of these epidemics/pandemics. The devastation a pandemic causes to society as well as economy should serve as a lesson on the need to be more prepared for arrival of both known and undiscovered viruses in the future. Biosensors are essentially useful devices that may be used to identify the outbreak of viruses or diseases. Although conventional diagnostics such as culturing, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) used for disease diagnostics are extremely powerful, most of these have time-consuming protocols and require higher sample volume for analysis. Biosensors are vibrant techniques for qualitative and quantitative determination of various analytes for clinical, agricultural, food, and environmental as well as for defense applications. Development of point-of-care technologies, rapid antigen tests, glucose monitoring sensors, and many more represents the advancement of biosensors point-of-care devices. Additionally, the various kinds of biosensor detection methods are discussed in this chapter with a significant focus on optical, electrochemical, and mass-based techniques." @default.
