- W4381331741 abstract "
Introduction
Recruitment in sexual health research is challenging. ‘Consent for Contact’ (C4C) (generic consent to be contacted for research) improves participant recruitment and engagement but has not previously been used for sexual health research. We explored patients’ and staff members’ views regarding a C4C system within sexual health.
Methods
Questionnaires were administered to all staff and patients in a sexual health clinic between 03/11/2021 – 29/06/2022. The questionnaires (developed with patient involvement) used a combination of multiple choice, Likert scale and free text responses to assess demographics, research knowledge, and opinions on C4C. Data were analysed in Excel using chi-square testing. Results informed subsequent interviews presented in a companion abstract.
Results
205/300 (68%) patient and 41/280 (15%) staff questionnaires were completed. 50% (102) and 41% (84) patients, and 29% (12) and 66% (27) staff identified as male or female respectively with the remainder not self-identifying. Amongst patients, 49% (100) were in favour of a sexual health C4C system and 41% (84) would consider joining. Table 1 shows patient and staff concerns with a minority of expressing concerns. Table 2 shows patient and staff views around logistics of a C4C system differed significantly.
Discussion
Within a sexual health clinic, the majority of patients and staff are open to a C4C system, with a minority having concerns. Some significant differences exist between patients and staff views, especially in relation to acceptable logistics. Patient engagement in the design of C4C systems is essential to address user needs effectively and avoid the risk of staff underestimating patient concerns." @default.
