- W4381488611 abstract "Chitin/chitosan biopolymers having significant structural capability for mechanical and chemical modifications to produce innovative properties, functions, and numerous applications particularly in the field of agriculture, biomedical, hygiene, and water treatment. These chitin/chitosan biopolymers are taken into consideration as an effectual polymeric material due to its biocompatibility, non-toxicity, antimicrobial, and biodegradability property. These biopolymers act as an absorbent polymer primarily derived from seafood waste based materials such as shrimp, waste crab, lobster shells, etc. Superabsorbent polymers (SPs) are the polymers that are able to soaking up water up to 1500 gm of water per gram of SP through hydrogen bonding with molecules of water. These polymers are generally cross-linked with polyelectrolytes which produce a hydrogel when contact with aqueous solutions. The development of novel superabsorbent polymeric materials through green technology and physical approaches or from raw based chitin/chitosan is a great pathway and beneficial to the “biobased development material” in industry. This chapter focuses on the current progress in chitin based superabsorbent polymer, preparation method approaches and preparation conditions, specific properties of SPs such as water absorbance properties, biodegradability, antibacterial, biocompatibility properties, etc. Further, a versatile application of superabsorbent polymers with short section of future scopes and demanding challenges has also been elaborated." @default.
