- W4381622940 abstract "In this chapter, we present the results of a multi-perspective study of textbook reception. Our study is based on the beginning of a unit in a geography textbook, called ‘Europe—Migration and Population’. As we regard migration as a key aspect of modern societies, we investigated students’ perceptions of this educational material. To explore the interplay of text and images in the reception process of students becoming teachers, we collected quantitative and qualitative data with the help of eye-tracking technology. We also conducted guideline-structured interviews on the topics of Europe and migration. This set of data was analysed with the help of grounded theory and situational analysis. Our results reveal that students view migration in Europe in terms of Sicherheit—how safe they feel, personally, and how they see the global situation. The consequences of this for teacher training at universities are discussed in the final section." @default.
