- W4381849874 abstract "Interlocking timber connections that are steel-free and adhesive-free are uncommon in modern construction, but the necessity to maintain cultural heritage alongside the rise in demand for sustainable buildings has revived interest in traditional carpentry techniques, as well as contemporary wood-wood and all-wood connections. This review aims to draw together the past, present, and future applications of structural timber joints from a holistic perspective. In response to inadequate design guidelines, research on the mechanics of timber joints that incorporate traditional techniques has increased globally. Furthermore, sustainability objectives are prompting the modernization of connections, particularly in digitization and fabrication. The drivers of the rises and falls in the popularity of timber carpentry are explained and give meaning to the ongoing increase in interest in timber connections. Perceived advantages to timber joints, as well as the limitations, are explored herein. This work includes a comprehensive literature review of emerging research and highlights connection evaluation methods, including experimental, analytical, and numerical modeling approaches. A discussion of modern trends in technological advancements, particularly those utilizing digitization and robotic milling, foreshadow the future of carpentry in modern construction." @default.
