- W43819150 abstract "Mallory-Weiss Syndrome (MWS) frequency and occurrence have been studied as part of a follow-up program in patients under 13 years old, along with the role of comorbidities and concurrentcomorbid conditions in the clinical picture and tanatogenesis of the syndrome. The case histories of 345 patients and pathologicoanatomicalpostmortem examinatiorjprotocols of 40 patients who had died of Mallory-Weiss Syndrome have been analysed. As a result a twofold increase in Mallory-Weiss Syndrome frequency concerning upper digestive tract hemorrhage etiology within a 5-year period has been observed. Up to 58% of MWS occured secondary to severe concomitant disorders; according to the postmortem research, MWS was found to cause death in 1.6% of patients, whereas concurrent conditions in the decompensation stage appeared to lead to lethal outcome in 90% of cases." @default.
