- W4381955571 abstract "Current theories of clinical symptomology, pathophysiology and physiology are based on anatomy, particularly at the macroscopic level. The structural anatomy then was supplemented with the anatomical distribution of neurotransmitter systems. With more detailed analysis of the known anatomy, it is clear that the detailed anatomy is inconsistent with the anatomical premises foundational to the current theories. Extrapolation from the anatomy to physiology and pathophysiology requires addressing what is the fundamental and foundational unit of the anatomy and the physiology. Since the early 1900s, the neuron was demonstrated to be the fundamental and foundational unit of anatomy. However, the neuron then just became the foundation of the physiology, in what is called the Neuron Doctrine, as an extension of the Cell Theory. An alternative was posed and called the Reticular Theory. Modern evidence is more supportive of the Reticular Theory and the lesson is that anatomy is not synonymous with physiology." @default.
