- W4382364089 abstract "In this study, a new method was proposed to select effective wavelengths in visible and near infrared waveband from 400 nm to 1050 nm to detect bruises of Fuji apples. Different from traditional methods which selected wavelengths based on the spectral data, this method selected wavelengths by comprehensively considering the tissues’ optical properties and apples’ diffuse reflectance. The measurement results of normal and bruised apples showed that in the detection band, more obvious tissues’ optical property differences led to larger diffuse reflectance difference between normal and bruised apples. 545 nm was chosen to be the characteristic wavelength based on the optical property difference between normal and bruised apple tissues. This result was close to 552 nm which was selected based on diffuse reflectance difference. Each wavelength was assumed to be an independent classifier for bruised/normal classification. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to evaluate all the classifiers. The evaluation result shows that the waveband around 545 nm is the best classifier. In addition, if the threshold of the classifier is set properly, 720 nm is also a good choice in detecting bruise for its high reflectance. This method not only selected effective wavelengths but also provided theoretical guidance of wavelength selection." @default.
