However their efficacy is restricted owing to reduced stability during administration and storage, degradation during gastrointestinal transit, volatility, and irregular release pattern. Conversely, the encapsulation of essential oils can address the limitation associated with the same. The encapsulation of essential oils can be carried out multitude of techniques such as liposomes, cyclodextrin, polymeric matrix, solid lipid nanoparticles, multiple emulsions, microemulsion, nanoprecipitation, spray drying etc. The encapsulation of essential oils results in modulation in release pattern (control release), in vitro degradation, improved stability, and overall enhanced bioefficacy. This chapter focuses on most frequent and efficient methods of encapsulation of essential oils. The principle and application of each encapsulation technique and development of new formulations with improved attributes are presented in this chapter." @default.
