- W4382542113 abstract "One of the promising technologies for green hydrogen production is seawater electrolysis using an anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzer. To overcome the use of precious metal catalysts, an alternate non-noble metal catalyst is urgently required to lower the operating cost of the electrolyzer. In this work, a novel high entropy metal oxide @ graphene oxide ([email protected]) was synthesized and explored as a bi-functional electrocatalyst for direct seawater electrolysis. The materials characterizations such as X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive X-ray analysis, high-resolution transmission electron microscope, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed the formation of the [email protected] The electrochemical seawater splitting was examined both in half-cell and full-cell configurations. It turned out that the [email protected] electrocatalyst could reach a current density of 10 mA cm−2 at a low overpotential of −482 mV for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and 597 mV for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in the seawater. The full-cell electrolyzer exhibited a maximum current of 0.19 A at 3 V in the seawater. The homemade AEM seawater electrolyzer was demonstrated to operate at a generation rate of 32 mL h-1 at 2 V. Such a good performance was attributed to the HEMO grain's nature which acted as reaction centers, while the GO provided more contact area with the electrolyte that led to lower overpotential and high exchange current density." @default.
