The spectra of Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflectance showed the formed biomimetic coating was chemically bonded with the steel surface for all samples. The average contact angles for the superhydrophobic biomimetic coating on slightly, moderately and seriously corroded steel surfaces were 149o, 161o and 158o, respectively.
