- W4382877054 abstract "As part of our efforts to study the cytotoxic constituents from the twigs and leaves of Illicium merrillianum, we report here two new lignans namely 9′-acetoxyl aviculin (1) and 9-O-α-D-xylopyranoside-9′-acetoxyl vladinol F (2), together with fifteen known congeners (3–17). Their structures were determined by a combination of spectroscopic and physicochemical analyses. Compound (3) was first separated into two enantiomers by chiral methods and the absolute configurations of (+)-3a and (−)-3b were established as 7′S,8′R and 7′R,8′S, respectively. Compounds (+)−7′S,8′R-3a, 13, 15, 17 exhibited appreciable cytotoxicity against the colon and liver cancer cell lines HCT-116, JHH-7, SMMC-7721 with IC50 values between 3.34 and 18.20 μM, while they displayed moderate or weak effects on the lung and breast cancer cells A549, MDA-MB-231 with IC50 values ranging from 16.33 to 100 μM. Compound (+)−7′S,8′R-3a had selective cytotoxicity against the hepatoma cell lines JHH-7 and SMMC-7721 at 4.77 and 6.43 μM, with little effect on the growth of normal hepatic cells QSG7701 and LO2 (IC50 = 54.75, 41.78 μM), showing a unique advantage in the anti-liver cancer drug studies." @default.
