- W4383425857 abstract "Multiteam systems (MTSs) are work structures composed of interdependent teams that must coordinate and collaborate to achieve a shared, superordinate goal. Some MTSs are tasked with intellectual, innovation-focused goals. In this chapter, we present a typology of three types of innovation MTSs: creative, incremental innovation, and radical innovation MTSs. Grounded in frameworks of team and MTS behavioral processes, we discuss how such systems may enact key processes to achieve their innovative goals. We present theoretical propositions related to differences among the types and how they may be expected to execute optimal performance under different conditions. We also relate three modes of MTS ambidexterity, structural, temporal/sequential, and contextual, to challenges they pose to each innovation MTS type. We additionally focus on the role of MTS emergent states, including trust, transactive memory, and interaction mental models, as they relate to the enactment of each mode of MTS ambidexterity. Finally, we overview the anticipated role of leadership functions and structures as they relate to innovation MTS ambidexterity." @default.
