- W4383504085 abstract "This paper develops a decision-aided framework to identify the most suitable location for establishing the wind farm system at Himalayan terrain of Sikkim, India. The methodological framework has been developed using hybrid GIS-MCDM technique. Exclusion and evaluation criteria have been defined; georeferenced and processed based on the series of environmental-techno-economic factors. In the first stage of analysis, Supervised Land use/ Land cover classification process has been followed to identify the unsuitable location as the exclusion criteria. In this process, fellow land about 24.24% i.e. 1722.85 Sq Km has been obtained to process further for evaluation criteria. In the second stage of analysis, evaluation parameters have been ranked based on the results obtained from AHP method. AHP results shows that, technical and climatological factor (39%) is the most important criteria followed by economic and environmental factor (24%). Finally, geo-spatially suitable area has been derived after overlaying the layer obtained from the first stage and the set of evaluation parameter’s layer from the second stage. Final site suitability results show that the area covered under Southeastern region and Southern region are found to be promising with 17% suitability of the total geographical area of study region. Final results shows that, suitable regions are sparsely distributed in such a way that Eastern zone has highest suitability of 9.06% followed by Southern zone with 6.84%. Beside this, Northern and Western zone of study region found to have moderate suitability. This study has tried to serve a basis for a preliminary site assessment during the prospecting phase of wind projects development. It is expected that the information collected and compiled in this study may be helpful to stakeholders, policy makers, private players and government agencies in their effort toward achieving the ambitious renewable energy goals." @default.
