- W4383562942 abstract "The rise of the World Social Forum (though not its decline) can be perceived in Polanyian terms: a phase of neoliberal globalisation is followed by attempts to create structures of global solidarity and protection. Yet, this is ambiguous because WSF lacks agency—re-opening the question of transformative agency. Collective learning and actions are difficult in a world characterised by inequalities, asymmetric power relations, and disintegrative tendencies. I develop the idea of transformative agency as a global political party. Its action possibilities expand step-by-step with successful institutional transformations. A world party cultivates reflexive knowledge—compatible with critical cosmopolitanism—about non-fixed pasts and possible futures. I sketch a possible way of organising such a party and specifying its purposes, grounded in lessons of history and thought experiments." @default.
