- W4384158202 abstract "A wide range of applications are currently supported by Machine Type Communications (MTC) and this include smart metering, surveillance, industry automation, eHealth, infrastructure management, etc. In order for MTC to effectively support these applications, there is need for reliable data exchange among the MTC devices (MTCDs) and MTC servers. During these data exchanges, generally small amounts of data is transmitted from a large number of MTCDs leading to massive MTC (mMTC). Although data size is small, because a large number of MTCDs try to access the same channel for communication in cellular networks, MTCDs contend for radio resources and this leads to not only an overload problem, but also delays in accessing the channel and high energy consumption. In this article, we have proposed a novel scheme for random access for resilient Machine Type Communications (MTC) in Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA) based slotting of hybrid (contention-based and contention-free) systems. The Machine Type Communication Device (MTCD) communicating with the Base Station (BS) suffer from delays and utilization of energy during contention periods that need to be minimized. As compared to the standard LTE networks, this proposed scheme provides better energy utilization of MTCDs by incorporating energy efficiency as an objective in the access probability calculations. Moreover, delay in accessing channels is also considered as an objective in the formulation of a multi-objective problem. The optimization problem is solved using the numerical method of genetic computational function. The adjustment of the access probability of MTCDs shows that the proposed system provides an optimal solution to conserve energy and minimize access delay for MTC systems with a hybrid CSMA configuration." @default.
