Most Arabic countries, including Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and others, have not previously examineditheidistributioniofiglycatediapolipoproteiniBi (glyc_apoB) iinilipoproteinsiininon-diabeticianditypei2idiabetes.Subjects and methods: Fasting serum samples from 31 type-2 diabetic patients (DM) and 31 non-diabetic (hyperlipidemic) subjects were analyzed for glucose, HbA1C, total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL) (by routine auto-analyzer methods) iand GlycatediLDLi (Gly-LDL) ibyiELISA.Resultsi: Non-diabetic hyperlipidemic participants exhibited substantially greater serum Gly-LDL concentrations than diabetic patients (p=0.037), but diabetes patients had significantly higher FBS and HbA1c concentrations. In diabetic individuals, Gly-LDL was closely linked with LDL (p =0.035), but not with other parameters; in non-diabetic hyperlipidemic patients, Gly_iLDL wasisignificantlyicorrelatediwithiTG (pi=i0.035), VLDL (pi=i0.03), and HDL (p=0.048), but not with other parameters.Conclusioni: Serum Gly-LDL levels were significantly higher in hyperlipidemic non-diabetics but lower in diabetic patients, implying that regardless of glycemic state, significantiglycationiof LDL exists in all hyperlipidemic non-diabetics. Gly-LDL is a simple test to do, and its results may shed more light on an individual'sientireiriskiof coronaryiheartidisease.
