- W4384207061 abstract "CRISPR/Cas systems have revolutionized biology and medicine owing to their ability to cleave target nucleic acids with high precision and programmability; however, there are key challenges to their effective use – insufficient cellular entry, degradation in biological media, and off-target effects. The integration of CRISPR with nanotechnology has emerged as a promising strategy to overcome current barriers and impart new and tailorable properties. Nanotechnology can enhance CRISPR-mediated gene editing by enabling intracellular and targeted delivery, improved stability, stimulus-responsive activation in tissues of interest, and tunable pharmacological properties. Nanotechnology can also enhance CRISPR-mediated detection by increasing sensitivity, facilitating simpler readouts for point-of-care use, and reducing time to readout. proteins produced by the immune system that bind specifically to antigens, molecules that the body recognizes as foreign substances. short, single-stranded sequences of DNA or RNA that can form secondary/tertiary structures and bind to targets such as proteins, small molecules, and carbohydrates. a network of cells connected by tight junctions that prevent blood-borne substances from reaching the brain. signaling proteins that play essential roles in recruiting and activating immune cells and the immune response. a physical transfection method in which an electric pulse creates pores in cell membranes to facilitate intracellular delivery of macromolecules. the process whereby cells surround a material in its environment using its cell membrane, and bring it into the cell as a membrane-bound vesicle. an electric field is locally applied to the cell membrane to create transient nanopores; includes localized electroporation, nanofountains, and nanostraws. an inexpensive isothermal nucleic acid amplification technique. when exposed to a magnetic field, some magnetic NPs destabilize the cell membrane, thus allowing transfection. a phenomenon whereby materials such as imidazole can absorb protons from their environment, along with their counter-anions. The localized change in osmotic pressure leads water to enter the endosome, thus bursting it. a single-tube isothermal nucleic acid amplification technique that serves as an alternative to PCR. a technique in which inelastic scattering by a chemical species is significantly enhanced due to proximity to nanostructured metal surfaces such as those made of gold or silver. UCNPs can absorb low-energy photons and release higher-energy photons. Typically, incident IR absorption leads to visible or UV emissions." @default.
