- W4384209905 abstract "In this paper, the GAME2AWE platform is introduced that combines multiple technologies and intelligent software to create adaptive gaming experiences aimed at improving the physical and cognitive functioning of the elderly. The GAME2AWE platform supports the claim that game-based exercising (i.e., exergaming) provides significant health benefits for older adults. Enhancing strength and balance through exercises, in particular, is an effective action to prevent falls. Analysis of the relevant literature and the use of qualitative methods (e.g., multidisciplinary focus group) have provided guidance for the design of the exergames. Insights on the implementation of the exergaming platform are also provided. An evaluation study was conducted with twelve participants (N = 12) including end users (i.e., healthy elderly) and healthcare experts. The evaluation examined the GAME2AWE platform in terms of usability, usefulness, safety and applicability. The positive results provide evidence that the GAME2AWE platform is comfortable and fun to use, the exercises integrated in the exergames are safe to perform and overall the platform could assist the elderly to reinforce their strength and balance and consequently reduce frailties and fall risk." @default.
