- W4384346265 abstract "The conventional demographic explanation of the cessation of aging in terms of lifelong heterogeneity requires very extreme differences in robustness among members of a cohort. Fluctuations in environmental or genetic heterogeneity should therefore lead to major differences in patterns of aging cessation. Yet both inbred and outbred lines show similar decelerations in mortality rate increases, with comparable cessations of aging. The first strong test of lifelong heterogeneity was performed by A.A. Khazaeli and colleagues, who treated numerous cohorts either in a heterogeneity-increasing manner or in a heterogeneity-decreasing manner. This manipulation had no significant impact on lifelong heterogeneity, nor did selection for increased robustness. L.D. Mueller did a careful analysis of the magnitude of lifelong heterogeneity required to make the hypothesis drive observed patterns of mortality rate deceleration. Once lifelong heterogeneity theory is developed quantitatively, it is apparent that observed cohorts do not have patterns of aging that meet their assumptions, even when the theory is expressly fitted to the observed cohort properties. Even more extensive theoretical analysis of lifelong heterogeneity theories led by L.D. Mueller continued to show the implausibility of such theories for the explanation of mortality-rate plateaus." @default.
