- W4384346728 abstract "CONTEXT: Transverse Abdominis (TrA) is one of the main core stabilizing muscles of the lumbar spine and also being one of the significant components of the core; it is important to understand to what extent the single muscle of the core contributes to the dynamic balance.AIMS: This study aims to find the correlation between transverse abdominis muscle activity and dynamic balance.SETTING AND DESIGN: This was an analytical correlation study conducted in a tertiary care hospital in Mangaluru.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 32 healthy males between the age of 18 and 30 years were included in the study. Transverse abdominis muscle activity was measured with a pressure biofeedback unit during abdominal tuck-in in a prone position and quantified in mmHg. Dynamic balance was measured with the Lower Quarter Y-Balance Test (LQYBT).STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: The collected data of transverse abdominis muscle activity and Lower Quarter Y-Balance was summarized using mean and standard deviation. Shapiro‒Wilk test was done to test the normality of data and Spearman's rho correlation coefficient was used to find the correlation between transverse abdominis muscle activity and dynamic balance.RESULTS: The Spearman's correlation between the pressure difference component of TrA activity and the component of dynamic balance (LQYBT, anterior, posterolateral, and posteromedial) showed a moderately significant positive correlation (P < 0.05). The Spearman's correlation between hold time (Component of TrA activity) and LQYBT showed a moderately significant positive correlation (P < 0.05). Spearman's rho correlation between two components of dynamic balance (anterior, posteromedial) and hold time showed a fair positive correlation which was statistically not significant (P > 0.05). However, there was a moderate positive correlation between hold time and a posterolateral component of dynamic balance (P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: Participants who showed strong transverse abdominis muscle activity had excellent dynamic balance." @default.
