- W4384788552 abstract "Hair pulling and pathological skin picking have long been viewed as obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders and are included in the DSM-5 under Obsessive–Compulsive and Related Disorders as Trichotillomania (Hair-Pulling Disorder) and Excoriation (Skin-Picking) Disorder. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterized by obsessions, which are intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that create anxiety; and compulsions, which are the behaviors engaged in with the aim of reducing and/or eliminating this anxiety. This chapter starts with a brief overview of the prevalence and phenomenology of these disorders. Next, cognitive behavioral mechanisms and empirically supported cognitive behavioral treatments are explained in detail, including habit reversal training (HRT) combined with stimulus control, and augmenting strategies from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Finally, a case presentation is used to highlight the application of treatment skills." @default.
