- W4384788896 abstract "The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in significant changes in activity-travel behavior, attitudes, and perceptions of risk. Although the impacts of the pandemic on the utilization of certain modes (e.g., private vehicle, active modes, public transit) are clear, the same cannot be said about its impacts on the use of ride-sourcing. Prior to the pandemic, the introduction and adoption of ride-sourcing was found to have a disruptive impact on both activity-travel behavior and the operations of transportation networks. Consequently, it is imperative to understand the short- and potential long-term impacts of the pandemic on ride-sourcing use. This chapter explores the determinants of ride-sourcing use during the pandemic, how these determinants have changed during the pandemic, and the potential nature of post-pandemic ride-sourcing use, through a literature review and empirical case study. Two key themes emerged from the literature review: first, despite the decline in ride-sourcing trips resulting from the pandemic, the changes in the use of these services differ based on factors such as socio-demographic attributes, mobility tool ownership, and public health measures. Second, attitudinal factors and perceptions of risk played an important role in the decision to use ride-sourcing during the pandemic, the extent to which these services are being used, and anticipated post-pandemic ride-sourcing use. Additionally, the findings of the case study highlight the extent to which the factors influencing the use of ride-sourcing, and the perceived risk associated with using these services in the post-pandemic period, have evolved during the pandemic." @default.
