• W4384826410 abstract "Abstract Background As the field of nursing science continues to evolve and higher education expands, enhancing empathy and humanistic care skills among nursing students prior to their clinical practice has become a crucial responsibility for nursing educators. To investigate the impact of the TPKCEE compound teaching model, which is based on narrative nursing, on the cultivation of empathy and humanistic care qualities among students in the ideological and political teaching of obstetrics and gynecology nursing. Methods A convergent mixed method design was used, which consisted of a quasi-experimental design and a semistructured interview.Data collection took place from September 2021 to February 2023. A convenience sampling method was used to select 61 fulltime third-year nursing students in a school in China (a control group of 27 and an experimental group of 34). The control group was exposed to traditional curriculum, while the experimental group used the TPCKEE teaching model based on narrative nursing. Jefferson Empathy Scale (JSE) and Caring Ability Scale (CAI) were used for quantitative assessment before and after the course, descriptive statistics and Mann-Whitney U test were used to compare the empathy and caring ability of the two groups of students, and semi-structured interviews were used for qualitative assessment. Thematic analysis was used to understand the development of students in humanistic care, empathy and learning experience. Results After teaching, the total score of empathy and the dimension of transposition, emotion and viewpoint, and the total score of CAI and the dimension of understanding and courage of nursing students in the control group were better than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion The TPCKEE teaching model based on narrative nursing effectively improves empathy, caring behavior, and classroom teaching outcomes in third-year nursing students." @default.
