This chapter examines staff perspectives on the closure as revealed through oral history interviews conducted between 2017 and 2019. Previous scholarly accounts, relying on media portrayals of low staff morale and poor living conditions, describe the hospital’s closure as inevitable. However, most former staff recall the closure as unexpected and reveal nostalgic attitudes toward their work at Central State. These staff describe closure as the disruption of community and termination of caring practices. By analysing the oral history interviews, this chapter takes a critical perspective on various modes of remembrance and sheds light on the internal momentum of institutional closure." @default.
