- W4385187846 abstract "Background and Aim: Saroglitazar is an only approved drug for NAFLD and NASH in India and are extensively used in clinical practice. We aimed to assess the effectiveness of Saroglitazar primarily on hepatic steatosis and stiffness measured by Fibroscan, and secondarily on NAFLD associated biochemical and metabolic parameters. Methods: The patients diagnosed for NAFLD in specialty care gastroenterology OPD of GMCH, and qualifying for therapeutic interventions are prescribed on Saroglitazar 4mg OD. Subjects who satisfies the study inclusion criteria (n=10, 80% male, 40% diabetic), underwent the interim analysis (after 12-16 week of therapy) for primary and secondary study endpoints. Paired t tests at 95% CI were applied to establish statistical significance. Results: Saroglitazar significantly reduces hepatic steatosis (CAP) [by 23.5% (p<0.05)] and stiffness (LSM) [by 9.4% (p = 0.77)]. There is significant reduction in AST, ALT, TG and total cholesterol, however non-significant reduction is seen in LDL, FBS, & HbA1c from baseline. Conclusion: Saroglitazar shows effective trends of improvement on overall NAFLD associated parameters. The long duration including large sample size analysis of this ongoing observational study will strengthen the conclusive remarks on the trend of effectiveness and safety of Saroglitazar in NAFLD/NASH." @default.
