- W4385187962 abstract "Background and Aim: This study aimed to compare pre-procedure and post-procedure values of liver stiffness (LSM) using transient elastography (TE) at fixed intervals in Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) patients undergoing endovascular intervention. This study also evaluated the role of LSM as a specific non-invasive predictor of the effectiveness of intervention and restenosis. Methods: 28 patients with BCS who underwent IVC angioplasty or stenting were included in this study. The procedures were performed through a femoral approach. Stenting was done in cases of significant post-balloon angioplasty residual stenosis. LSM values were obtained before and after the radiological intervention at fixed intervals (post-intervention one week, three months, and six months). Results: Technical success was achieved in 100% (28) of patients. A total of 28 BCS patients underwent endovascular IVC interventions. Of 28 patients, 26 underwent IVC angioplasty alone, and 2 underwent IVC stenting after balloon angioplasty due to significant residual stenosis. Out of these 26 patients,2 patients underwent repeat IVC angioplasty due to the development of restenosis after 3 months. No major complication was seen. There was a significant reduction in the LSM values after the intervention. The median baseline and post-interventional 1-week, 3-month, and 6-month LSM values were 41kPa (18-74 kPa), 21kPa (12-32 kPa), 19.5 kPa (11-29 kPa), and 18 kPa (14-36kPa), respectively. Conclusion: Endovascular intervention is an effective way to treat BCS patients. There was a significant reduction in the LSM values after the intervention. The role of LSM as a non-invasive predictor in assessing the effectiveness of endovascular IVC intervention is encouraging and promising. It can also detect the restenosis of IVC after endovascular intervention in patients of BCS." @default.
