• W4385196710 abstract "Background and Aim: Chronic liver disease and its complications carry high risk of mortality during hospitalization. Available scoring systems are used for predicting short and long-term mortality. There is lack of head on data comparing different scoring systems in predicting mortality. The aim of present study was comparison between these scoring systems in predicting mortality risk during hospitalization. Methods: This was prospective, observational study including consecutive 400 admitted patients of chronic liver disease. The primary endpoint of study was comparison of different scoring system with in hospital mortality. The secondary endpoint was development of in hospital complications of chronic liver disease and its impact on outcome. The Child-Pugh, MELD Na, SOFA and APACHE II scores were included in study and compared with outcome. Results: Among 400 patients, the male: female ratio was 3.08: 1. Commonest aetiology of chronic liver disease was NASH (48.8%) and alcohol (32.8%). The mortality rate was 25.08% during hospitalization. Among the prognostic scores, median Child-Pugh score in survivor and non-survivor was 8 (7-10) and 11 (10-12) respectively. The median MELD Na score in survivor and non-survivor was 18 (13-23) and 27 (24-30) respectively. The median SOFA score in survivor and non-survivor was 4 (2-6) and 12 (11-14) respectively. The median APACHE II score in survivor and non-survivor was 12 (10-14) and 29 (16.5-31) respectively. The comparison among prognostic scores, AUROC of Child-Pugh score was 0.778, MELD Na was 0.859, SOFA score was 0.985 and APACHE II was 0.995. Conclusion: Among different scoring systems, the APACHE II score best predicted in-hospital mortality in patients with chronic liver disease." @default.
