- W4385236857 abstract "In recent years, there has been a growing focus on identifying bacteriocins that are safe for human consumption, able to withstand heat and pH changes, and highly potent against microorganisms, particularly drug-resistant bacteria. Between 2012 and 2021, approximately 50 new bacteriocins have been discovered via screening, purification, and characterization, yielding insights into research methodology and guiding the development of techniques to improve bacteriocin detection. These new bacteriocins have been identified and studied, which allows us to make inferences about the research methodology and provide direction for devising techniques that can facilitate quicker, simpler, and more effective detection of bacteriocins in the future. However, no method is applicable for purification of all bacteriocins, especially the unknown types that can be purified based on theoretical knowledge and experimental trials. This chapter outlines the existing techniques for identifying bacteriocins utilized in traditional screening methods, such as spot-on-lawn, disc diffusion, and agar well diffusion assays. For the initial purification process, approaches such as ammonium sulfate precipitation, acetone precipitation, and ethanol extraction with macroporous resins are used. In addition, a range of new methodologies are used for characterization, such as screening through PCR. And platforms like AntiSMASH are also being investigated for bacteriocin-producing bacteria, purification methods for bacteriocin, and characteristic metabolites identification." @default.
